- Travels for Art:: St Ives

I had been to St Ives a few times but in May 2010 I got to explore it much more.  I stayed in the Hayle Travelodge for a £140 for the week but I think I want to stay in a cottage/flat in the centre of St Ives with a seaview next time.  As well as the Tate St Ives Gallery, there are 3 great beach cafes/restaurants, lot of little galleries and teashops, lots of artists, St Ives art school where I did a life drawing class (will do more there), etc.    I intend to return in more detail to - padstow, newquay, penzance and the newlyn art area, the minack outdoor theatre, the island monastery of St Michael's Mount and all the places I've yet to discover, especially the coves, cliffs and beaches.   And, enjoy great places to eat and drink with lovely sea views to inspire.

On my last trip to Rock near Padstow I found Rock Art Gallery and outside was the artist Alan Caswell painting frames for his pictures.  Really loved the latest of his works that were on show in the gallery - impressionist, misty Turneresk muted grey/blue seascapes, some only just visible as in Turners late works.

Drang Gallery Padstow
I was surprised to find a contemporary art gallery with big names in  Padstow as I was expecting the usual seaside galleries with pretty art and designs.
